TCU officially joins Big 12 | TheGazette

IRVING, Texas ? The Big 12 Conference Board of Directors have voted unanimously to accept Texas Christian University as a full conference member, effective July 1, 2012.? ?

The addition of TCU maintains Big 12 membership at 10 institutions.? It is the first new member to join the Conference since it began in 1996.? The Horned Frogs will begin competing in all sports with the 2012-13 academic season.? ?

?The Big 12 Presidents and Chancellors are pleased to welcome TCU to the Big 12,? noted Burns Hargis, Chair of the Big 12 Board of Directors and president of Oklahoma State University.? ?The addition of TCU gives us a prestigious institution with great academics, strong financial support, outstanding athletic tradition, and a perfect geographic fit.? Beginning July 1, 2012, the Big 12 Conference will be comprised of 10 Universities ? Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas, and Texas Tech.? The Big 12?s footprint encompasses five states with over 40 million people.? More than 4,100 student-athletes from across the United States and around the World compete annually in the 23 sports sponsored by the Conference.

FOOTBALL ACCOMPLISHMENTS
???TCU is the only school in the nation to finish in the top 10 of the season-ending Associated Press and USA Today polls each of the last three seasons.
???TCU is one of just three schools to reach a BCS game each of the last two campaigns.
???Over the last three years, TCU has an average finish of No. 5 in the season-ending top 25 polls, ranking first nationally.
???Entering this season, the Frogs have recorded the second-highest win total in the nation since 2005, while winning 10 or more contests eight times since 2000.

???TCU has made 13 postseason appearances in its men?s basketball history, including seven trips to the NCAA Tournament. The Frogs have also won 11 conference titles.
???TCU has had men?s basketball players capture 85 all-conference accolades, while eight players have garnered All-America honors.
???The baseball team has won 11 conference championships and has a stretch of eight consecutive appearances in the postseason since 2004. The 2009 squad reached the NCAA Super Regional for the first time and advanced to the school?s first College World Series the following season.
???In women?s basketball, TCU is one of 20 schools in the nation to make nine NCAA Tournament appearances in the last 11 campaigns.
???The men?s golf program has advanced to NCAA competition 22 consecutive years, while 16 different Frogs have recorded 20 All-America honors.
???The TCU women?s golf program has made 16 consecutive NCAA appearances and also won the 1983 NCAA Championship while producing seven All-Americans and six LPGA Tour members.
???The track & field program has won 14 NCAA event championships, including seven NCAA relay crowns.
???The men?s tennis team has been in all but two NCAA Tournaments since 1991 and has reached the national semifinals on three occasions (1989, 1996, 2001).
???The women?s tennis team has advanced to the NCAA Championships in seven of the past eight seasons, with 13 appearances overall.
