The FDA vs. End Stage Breast Cancer Patients | The Lonely ...

Suppose you?re dying of breast cancer. Now suppose that a drug could extend your life, but said drug has serious side effects. What would you do? If it were me, I would go with the side effects if it meant I would live. Unfortunately for breast cancer patients, Obama?s FDA doesn?t see it that way when it comes to the drug Avastin. The FDA just revoked approval for Avastin as a treatment of breast cancer. This is surely devastating news to quite a few American women.

The risks of Avastin are real, but they?re also well-understood and manageable, especially in end-stage oncology where there are no good options. The FDA?s real goal was to send a warning to the rest of the drug industry about who is in charge of drug development. The FDA withdrew Avastin?s breast cancer approval last year?leading to Genentech?s unprecedented appeal and a two-day trial in June. (Read More)
