Gingrich rails against Obama at California GOP convention Los Angeles Times, by?Maria L. La Ganga |

Burlingame, Calif.? With his competition focused on the chilly Midwest, Newt Gingrich wooed California's Republican faithful Saturday, banking on a Republican contest so chaotic that the most populous state in the country could actually matter when voters go to the polls in June. "You cannot follow the recent Republican practice of writing off our largest state and imagine that you are going to run an American campaign," the former House speaker told delegates to the state party convention, meeting outside of San Francisco. (Snip) That was as close as Gingrich came to acknowledging Republican front-runners Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum

Comments: I certainly hope that Gingrich continues to attack 0bama out on the road when the most likely result happens and he doesn't get the Republican nomination. If defeating 0bama is as important and he says he should do nothing else.

Newt makes a very good point that affects all of us on the west coast who have long felt our vote is a waste of time as everything is always settled before it gets to the west coast's time to vote. Bless his heart, Newt came to three different cities here in WA this week - hardly anyone ever bothers to come this way - except of course Obama who comes to exact millions from the Boeing Co. and Microsoft.

Newt is many things. A fool is not one of them. I thank him for thoroughly eviscerating Obama better than any other candidate. I say thank you for keeping at it. (He knows he isn't going to be the nominee.)

The story is surprisingly good. I'm surprised the LAT covered this at all. They are totally in the tank for B. Hussein. They must have made a mistake and the writer is now in big trouble. Can't the LAT just be liquidated? They've been in bankruptcy for years.

Oil magnates Charles and David Koch are firing back at President Obama's reelection campaign over a fundraising letter tying Mitt Romney to their business interests. In an open letter addressed to campaign manager Jim Messina, president of government & public affairs for Koch industries Philip Ellender accuses the Obama campaign of sending an "irresponsible and misleading letter" to supporters. "If the President?s campaign has some principled disagreement with the arguments we are making publicly about the staggering debt the President and previous administrations have imposed on the country, the regulations that are stifling business growth and innovation, the increasing intrusion of

Tunis, Tunisia - U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Saturday warned of backsliding in the democratic transformations under way in the Mideast and North Africa, and appealed for countries in the region to fulfill the promise of reform offered by the Arab Spring. In Tunisia, the catalyst for the tumult that engulfed the region last year, Clinton said the continued embrace of reforms would serve as a powerful example elsewhere. Her comments came amid concerns that transitions in Egypt and elsewhere are faltering and at risk of being hijacked by extremists.

Washington? Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer indicated Saturday that she's likely to endorse one of the Republican presidential candidates before her state's primary election on Tuesday. Speaking with reporters at the National Governors Assn. meeting in Washington, Brewer first said that she would definitely announce an endorsement before Tuesday, perhaps even as soon as Sunday. But then she hedged, saying, "If I get all my answers." (Snip) Brewer said she spoke with each of the four major hopefuls before Wednesday's nationally-televised debate in her state. She said she would have liked to have seen a more thorough discussion of illegal immigration

Indian intelligence services have considerable evidence that Iran was behind this month's New Delhi terrorist attack, but are not releasing it in a bid to avoid public confrontation with the Islamic republic, an Israeli security source says. (Snip) According to a senior Israeli official who is close to the investigation, the Indians are close to fully solving the case but they are not saying so publicly. Nonetheless, in quiet contacts with Israel and the United States, the Indians are not concealing the information in their possession, the Israeli official said. The Indians have located the motorcycle used in the attack,

In nature, most seals are black, with relatively few white ones. The Navy's SEALs have exactly the opposite problem -- they're overwhelmingly white, with hardly any blacks. So they're trying to do something about it. It's a fundamental challenge in a democracy with an all-volunteer force: recruits may be drawn from all segments of society, but elite military units (snip) tend to draw from small pools of talent. For the SEALs, that includes athletic young men who are smart and good in the water. For whatever reason, that has led to an overwhelmingly white SEAL force.

Patrick railed at Whitt over the radio after the crash, which sent Patrick to the garage for extensive repairs to the car.

The top Iranian military Commander today said, "Nothing but burning the White House can relieve the wound of us, the Muslims, caused by the Burning of Quran in the US." Fars News reported: A top Iranian military commander said the US helplessness in the confrontation against Islam is the real cause underlying the burning of the Muslims' Holy Book by American soldiers in Afghanistan, and stressed that nothing but burning the White House and hanging the US commanders responsible for this cowardly action can relieve the Muslims' pain.

CAIRO ? The Quran is the most sacred object in the daily lives of Muslims and burning copies of the holy book is considered an offense against God. It is so important in the faith that Islamic teaching and scholarly interpretations spell out how it should be handled, including directing anyone who touches it to be in a state of ritual purity as well as how to dispose of a faulty or damaged copy. Muslim scholars say it is better to lock up tarnished copies in a safe place, shred them or soak them in water

On Friday?s ?Special Report? on the Fox News Channel, Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer took strong umbrage with the White House?s decision to apologize at a Virginia mosque for a reportedly accidental burning of Islamic holy documents. ?That was embarrassing, what we saw,? Krauthammer said. ?We have gone from apology here to abject self-debasement and groveling. And groveling to whom? To the mob. We should have had a single apology coming from the commander on the ground and that?s it. Not from the secretary of defense. Not from the president, of all people.?

Litigation isn't poker. It's chess. You have to think three or four moves ahead. (snip)The most recent opinion-leader to fall into this trap of thinking statically, rather than dynamically, is Fox News's Bill O'Reilly. There he was on The O'Reilly Factor on Thursday night, singlehandedly solving the gasoline price spike. No problem. O'Reilly's on the case. He even said his plan is how the GOP presidential candidates could show leadership and seize the initiative from Mr. Obama.
